Research Centre for Astronomy, Astrophysics and Astrophotonics

From research into planet formation to the farthest galaxies, our international team at MQAAAstro is focused on answering the big questions of our universe.

One of the largest and fastest-growing astronomical centres of research excellence in Australia, Macquarie University’s Research Centre for Astronomy, Astrophysics, and Astrophotonics (MQAAAstro) is committed to investing in the next generation of researchers. Our extensive national and international collaborations ensure our research has global reach.

We’re equally passionate about sharing our knowledge with the public through strong science education links. Our on-campus observatory and inflatable planetarium are routinely visited by our students and by school students and teachers.

At the MQAAAstro we offer a uniquely wide range of opportunities for collaborations in observational astronomy, theoretical astrophysics, astrophotonics, instrumentation, and education.

Led by a dynamic, international team, the centre is now closely linked to the Macquarie node of the new Australian Astronomical Optics (AAO-MQ), experts in astronomical instrumentation, and is geographically close to CSIRO's Astrophysics and Space Science, the main radio astronomy centre in Australia.
